Principal’s End of Year Update – Term 4, Week 10

Seaview High School Community,

As we come to the end of another remarkable year at Seaview High School, I want to take this opportunity to thank every member of our community—students, staff, families, and our wider partners—for your commitment, resilience, and support.

Our students have once again demonstrated what it means to be curious, capable, and compassionate, embracing learning and the many opportunities offered throughout the year. From the energy and excitement of our Year 6 into 7 Transition Days, to the achievements of our senior students and the fun and collaboration of our Week 9 Activities Program, it has been a privilege to witness the dedication, spirit, and growth within our school.

A special acknowledgement goes to our staff—your care, expertise, and flexibility underpin all that we achieve together. I extend my sincere gratitude for your efforts in supporting every learner, especially as we continue to innovate and uphold high expectations well into 2026.

To our families, thank you for your ongoing trust and partnership. The support you provide enables our young people to thrive.

As we farewell those students and staff moving on to new chapters—including Deputy Principal Bill Stapleton—and warmly welcome new faces for 2026, we celebrate the collective success of our school community. I wish everyone a safe, restful, and happy holiday break, filled with quality time with loved ones.

We look forward to seeing you in the new year, ready for another year of growth, learning, and achievement at Seaview High School.

Warm regards,

Craig Duguid
Principal

Collaborative Workshop Showcase

Our recent Collaborative Workshop Celebration and Exhibition was a fantastic success. Staff shared powerful learning from our 2025 Site Learning Plan, with highlights including strategies for learner equity, metacognition, self and co-regulation, and harnessing AI to support effective learners.

We heard directly from our Principal Mr Duguid and Director of Teaching and Learning Mr Charlesworth about our ongoing improvement journey and the exciting directions for 2026.

Thank you to everyone, staff, students, families and community partners, who joined us in showcasing how collaboration is shaping learning, wellbeing, student empowerment, and opportunity at Seaview High School.

Transition to High School

Our recent Year 6 into 7 Transition Days were a tremendous success, warmly welcoming future Seaview High School students and their families into our school community. Over the two-day program, students participated in a range of engaging activities across core subject areas and specialist programs, helping to familiarise them with our facilities, staff, and school routines.

Highlights included interactive lessons in science and technology, team-building exercises, and guided tours led by our current student leaders. A parent information session provided valuable insights into our curriculum, wellbeing supports, and expectations, with positive feedback received from both families and staff. The Transition Days have played an important role in easing student apprehensions, fostering new friendships, and building excitement for the year ahead.

We look forward to further supporting our incoming Year 7s as they embark on their Seaview journey.

New 40km/h speed limits in front of school

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has advised us that a new 40 km/h speed limit will be implemented in front of our school in 2026.

This 40 km/h speed limit will be in place during the morning and afternoon from 8.00am to 9.30am and 2.00pm to 4.00pm on school days. Speed limits will take effect at each site once signage is installed.

Please note that the safety camera within the 40 km/h precinct will be enforcing the time-based speed limit once the site installation is complete.

We will be in touch with more information closer to the roll out date.

Social Media Delay for Under 16-year-olds

As you would be aware, from 10 December 2025, many social media platforms will block accounts for Australians under 16.

The aim of this new law is to protect young people from design features that encourage them to spend too much time on screens and show them content that can be harmful to their health and wellbeing.

The responsibility sits with the platforms, but we can help by sharing reliable information.

Visit the eSafety website for the latest information for families including Get Ready guide and Conversation Starters

Seaview High School Oval Upgrade – new section of website to keep up to date

Exciting news for our school and community!

From 8 December to late January, we’ll be upgrading our main oval’s turf and irrigation systems in partnership with Glenelg Football Club (SANFL) and SANFL.

For everyone’s safety, access to the oval will be restricted while the work is carried out. Please follow any directions signposted around school grounds.

The upgrade is taking place over the holidays to minimise disruption to students.

We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to seeing everyone enjoy these fantastic new facilities in 2026 and beyond! Ongoing updates can be found on our website here – Seaview High School Oval Upgrade | Seaview High School

Week 9 Activities

Our Week 9 Activities Program offered a vibrant conclusion to the school year, with students engaging in a wide variety of experiences both on and off campus. The program was designed to foster engagement, collaboration, and celebration among all year levels while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.

Throughout the week, students rotated through exciting on-site sessions such as team sports, creative arts, STEM challenges, and wellbeing activities. Off-site excursions were also a major highlight: our Year 7 students enjoyed aquatic activities at the Marion Outdoor Pool, Year 8s took on the physical challenges at West Beach Climb, and our Year 9s experienced a day out at Glenelg with both a cinema visit and time at the Beach House.

Staff collaboration and flexibility were vital, with coordinated supervision and adjusted timetables ensuring smooth operation across all events. Students responded positively, displaying high levels of participation, cooperation, and school spirit.

Thank you to all staff for their dedication and to our students for their enthusiasm. The week successfully celebrated the achievements and connections made throughout the school year.

Year 12 Breakfast and Parade

Our Year 12s celebrated in style, arriving in fancy dress and enjoying a farewell breakfast and parade of the school, followed by their final Senior School Assembly. It was a fun and memorable way to wrap up the year.

Year 12 Graduation

Graduation was a proud celebration of achievement and growth. This cohort’s exceptional SACE completion rates speak volumes about their dedication and hard work. The ceremony was marked by heartfelt speeches, genuine emotion, and impeccable behaviour that made everyone present proud. The Class of 2025 leaves Seaview as confident, capable young adults ready to make their mark on the world.

Muriel Matters Award

Congratulations to Mary D, who is the 2025 recipient of the Muriel Matters Award. This award, presented by the Minister for Education, awards young people that demonstrate initiative, determination to make a difference despite personal challenges and a commitment to make the world a better place for all.

Mary continuously demonstrated initiative within the school community through her volunteer work as a coach for the Year 7/8 Girls Soccer Team, mentoring athletes and coaching the team during the state-wide games. Outside of school, she has shown self-initiative and selflessness by using her passion for cycling to commit to a 600km bike ride challenge to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Throughout the course of the year, Mary has trained excessively and even pushed through the setback of a broken foot to raise $2300 for breast cancer research.

Year 10 Drama

Mrs Below’s students took to the stage to perform “Love in All Forms”, a celebration of love in every shape it takes; family, friendship, romance, and even the wonderfully unexplainable connections we make.

This performance marked the students’ debut on stage, making their journey from page to stage a steep, challenging, and incredibly rewarding learning curve. Despite absences, illness, nerves, and all the bumps along the way, they showed resilience, collaboration, and commitment.

Statewide Knockout Volleyball

After qualifying for the finals, our Year 7/8 boys Statewide Volleyball team showed great commitment – training during lunchtimes and demonstrating an eagerness to compete, even though the Finals event would fall on a student free day.

On the day they faced a tough draw with Concordia, Immanuel, and Adelaide Botanic in their pool. The boys finished third in their pool, crossed over to play Morialta in the final round, and ultimately placed 5th in the state.

Congratulations to the team, and thank you to Year 10 student Liam O, who generously gave up his lunchtimes and student free day coach.

Statewide Knockout Tennis

Our Year 9/10 girls competed in the Statewide Knockout Tennis Tournament this week; their talent on full display as they came out winners after defeating Adelaide High School. With the scores tied at 3–3 (26–23), the result came down to a countback on games, highlighting just how hard they fought for their well-deserved win.

Operation Flinders

Earlier this term, ten Year 9 boys travelled to Yankaninna Station, 100km east of Leigh Creek, as part of the Operation Flinders team. Spirits were high, but as heavy packs and long days set in, the challenge quickly became real.

Day two featured an 18km trek through rocky creeks and hillsides, pushing the boys to their limits – some even joked about calling a helicopter home! A major storm on night four brought heavy rain and strong winds, but the group came out tougher and more resilient. As the week went on, the boys built new skills, confidence, and a strong sense of teamwork and after one last night under the stars, day eight marked the journey home.

Year 7/8 Statewide Touch Football

The boys played well, showing strong teamwork throughout the day, winning three of their four games and drawing the fourth. Their efforts saw them finish second overall, taking home the silver medal. The girls also performed exceptionally, winning all four of their matches and finishing first overall, bringing home the gold medal. It was a fantastic day, made even better by watching the students’ skills and confidence grow with each game.

SID Melbourne Trip

24 of our senior Special Interest Dance students travelled to Melbourne for two action packed days of workshops at Patrick School of the Arts. Students took part in an “Annie” workshop with Luke Alleva, Jazz Technique with Lauren Morfoot, Commercial Jazz with Lisa Herbert, Hip Hop with Elvin Wong, and Lyrical with Samuel Dominic.

They were also treated to a rehearsal of the tertiary showcase The Plague, featuring 2024 Seaview graduate and Patrick School of the Arts scholarship recipient Caine Birch, such a proud moment for our community!

Beyond the studio, students explored the Sea Life Aquarium, enjoyed a fun night of bowling, and wrapped up the trip with the incredible “MJ the Musical” at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with Patrick School of the Arts and can’t wait to be back in 2026!
