Principal’s Update – Term 1 Week 10

Term 1 Wrap Up

Seaview High School Community,

As we conclude Term 1, I am delighted to reflect on the vibrant and successful events that have marked the beginning of our school year. Below is a summary of the main activities across the school since our Week 5 Principal Update.  On a personal note, I continue to be grateful and excited about the opportunity to lead Seaview High School and thank you for your continued support and engagement. Joining this wonderful community as principal has already been a rewarding experience, and I am eager to continue building on our achievements. I wish all members of our school community a restful and enjoyable school holiday break, and I look forward to an exciting Term 2!

NAPLAN

Our students in Years 7 and 9 demonstrated great engagement during the NAPLAN assessments, with an impressive 1,628 submissions. This reflects the dedication of both students and staff in striving for academic excellence.

International Women’s Day – 8 March 2025

We celebrated International Women’s Day with a breakfast at school, bringing together students, staff and alumni who served as guest speakers and mentors for our students. Senior students and staff members, attended the official breakfast in the city, hosted by Senator Penny Wong. It was an incredibly inspiring event, and we feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend. In honour of the day, staff wore purple ribbons as a symbol of support, and Milly from the Learning Hub, along with the HASS team, set up a display that included “Commitment to Action” pledges towards gender equality. These pledges, completed by students, displayed beautiful messages of support for women, showcasing the kindness and solidarity that’s within our school community.

Open Night – 19 March 2025

Our Open Night was a resounding success and well attended with over 600 families joining us. Thank you to those who visited us on Open Night. It’s always great to engage with families and we hope that you were able to have a good look around and get a feel for our school and learning culture. I acknowledge the work of all staff involved in the lead up to and on Open Night, in particular Wendy and Mirella who played a key role.

Jean Pavy Award Ceremony

Each year, the Australian Education Union (SA Branch) honours public school students who achieve a Merit in SACE Stage 2 Women’s Studies, and their teachers, with the Jean Pavy Award. The award celebrates Jean Pavy’s contributions to public education, equal pay for women, and women’s rights in South Australia. Congratulations to 2024 Graduate, Emma S, who received a Merit in Women’s Studies, under the guidance of Ms Karen Zilm and was presented with a certificate and prize at the recent award ceremony.

Aboriginal Pathways – Department for Education Success Program

Staff Dress Up Day – 70s

Our annual secret staff dress up day saw afros, flares, disco moves, and groovy styles. Our staff transformed, bringing the funk and fun and surprising our students.

Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governer of SA visit

We recently welcomed the Governor of South Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC. This event offered students a platform to engage directly with the Governor to share their views on matters that were important to them and contribute to meaningful discussions around leadership, education, community issues and vision for the future of South Australia.
