Principal’s Update – Term 3, Week 6

Dear Seaview High School Community,

As we reach the midpoint of Term 3, I continue to feel really proud of what I see happening across Seaview High School each day. Whether in classrooms, on sporting fields, on stage or out in our community, our students consistently demonstrate the values, character and sense of belonging that make our school such a special place.

One of the genuine privileges of my role is spending time in classrooms and around the school, talking with students and staff and seeing learning in action. I have been struck by the positive atmosphere across the site, with students engaged in their learning, supporting one another, and staff working with care and dedication to create environments where every young person feels known, valued and challenged to do their best.

These moments reinforce the importance of our ongoing focus on Consistent, Predictable Routines by Consistent, Predictable Adults (CPR by CPA). While the phrase is simple, at its heart is our commitment to providing every student with the stability, support and relationships they need to thrive at school and beyond.

I hope you enjoy reading this update and reflecting on the many achievements, experiences and contributions of our students and staff. There is always much to celebrate at Seaview High School, and I am proud of all that we continue to accomplish together as a community.

Celebrating Student Achievement

Senior School Assembly

Early in Term 3, we came together for our Senior School Assembly to celebrate the outstanding achievements of students across Semester 1. It was wonderful to recognise students for Academic Excellence, success in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships, as well as our Year 10–12 All Rounder Award recipients.

These awards acknowledge not only high levels of achievement, but also the dedication, perseverance and commitment our students bring to their learning and wider school life. Congratulations to all students who were recognised, we are incredibly proud of your efforts and the positive example you set.

Dance Ultra Success

One of the highlights of the term has been the Southern Region Dance Ultra Competition. Our students performed with confidence, enthusiasm and exceptional teamwork, bringing to life routines choreographed by our talented student leaders.

While their performances were outstanding, it was their conduct and sportsmanship that stood out most. Students demonstrated kindness, encouragement and respect throughout the competition, earning Seaview High School the prestigious School Spirit Award for the second consecutive year. We congratulate all dancers, student coaches and staff involved in this remarkable achievement.

Girls AFL Advance to Grand Final

Our Open Girls Football team recently defeated Nuriootpa High School 39-14 in Round 2 of the Statewide Knockout competition. The win sees them progress to the Grand Final stage, an outstanding achievement that reflects their hard work, determination and commitment throughout the season. We wish the team every success in the final challenge against Heathfield High School on Wednesday 2 September!

BIG GIG Music Night

The annual BIG GIG returned bigger than ever, with 20 SACE Music students performing three hours of original music at The Jade. Students showcased their creativity, talent and confidence in a professional performance setting before the largest audience the event has seen. Congratulations to our musicians and Music staff for creating such a memorable celebration of student talent.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Snow Trip to Mount Buller

During the holidays, 47 students and 6 staff travelled to Mount Buller for Seaview’s annual snow trip to the Victorian alpine region. Students embraced new challenges, learning to ski and snowboard while developing resilience, independence and teamwork.

Equally impressive was the way students represented the school off the slopes. Lodge staff praised our students for their respectful behaviour, maturity and strong sense of community. Thank you to the staff who made this valuable experience possible.

Pathways and Future Opportunities

Our Year 11 and 12 students have been actively exploring future pathways through visits to Flinders University Open Day and SAE University College Adelaide. These experiences provided valuable insights into tertiary study options, career possibilities and life beyond secondary school.

Bell Shakespeare

Year 10 Drama and Year 11 English students recently enjoyed a visit from Bell Shakespeare, including a performance of Macbeth and an interactive question and answer session. Opportunities such as these bring learning to life and enrich students’ understanding of literature and performance.

Student Free Day Focus: Metacognition

Our recent Student Free Day provided staff with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of metacognition, helping students become more effective, independent learners.

Staff explored practical strategies that support students to plan, monitor and evaluate their learning through goal setting, reflection, feedback and explicit strategy instruction. This important work aligns closely with our Site Learning Plan and will continue to strengthen learner agency while preparing students for an increasingly complex and technology-rich future.

Community Connections

Active Citizenship Leadership

We are incredibly proud of Teesha S, who has been selected as a Youth Facilitator for the 2026 Active Citizenship Convention. Teesha will help lead discussions and support young people from across South Australia to engage with important conversations about democracy, leadership and community participation. In addition, selected Year 10 students will attend the convention later this term, where they will explore civic engagement, leadership and contemporary issues affecting young people.

Local Community Partnerships

Strong community relationships remain an important part of life at Seaview.

This term:

Year 10 Food and Hospitality students are working alongside children from Seaview Downs Kindergarten as part of a collaborative art and catering project.

Year 10 Peer Leadership students are supporting transition activities with Year 5 and 6 students at Darlington Primary School.

Our String students will perform at Darlington Primary School, showcasing the quality of our music program and promoting instrumental learning within the local community.

International Opportunities

Japan Study Tour and Homestay Program

We are excited to be planning our first international study tour partnership since 2019. In November, Seaview High School will welcome 16 students from our partner school, Ritsumeikan High School in Japan.

The visit will provide rich opportunities for intercultural learning and global connection. We are currently seeking local families interested in hosting students during their stay and encourage community members to consider supporting this valuable cultural exchange program.

Vietnam Cultural Expedition 2027

Planning is underway for the 2027 Vietnam Cultural Expedition. This exciting opportunity will allow students to immerse themselves in Vietnamese culture, engage in community service activities and develop valuable global citizenship skills. Preparing for 2027

Course Counselling and Subject Selections

The course counselling and subject selection process for 2027 is now underway for all students. This process supports students and families to make informed decisions about future learning pathways, while also helping the school plan staffing, curriculum offerings and resources for next year. I thank Deputy Principal Leigh Charlesworth for his leadership of this significant process.

Year 7 Transition

Seaview High School continues to experience strong enrolment demand. We are preparing to welcome 260 Year 7 students in 2027, with the vast majority coming from families within our local school zone. Comprehensive planning is already underway to ensure all new students and families experience a smooth, positive and well-supported transition into high school.

Building Our Leadership Team

As part of our ongoing growth, we are recruiting several key leadership positions that will help shape the future direction of Seaview High School. These roles will strengthen curriculum innovation, wellbeing, learner support, student pathways and leadership capacity across the school.

Facilities and School Improvements

Significant facilities work has taken place during the holidays and throughout July, including:

Major transformer upgrades.
Painting of key corridors and entrances.
Window repairs and installation of new roller blinds.
New carpet tiles in the Learning Hub.
Landscaping improvements at the Callum Grove entrance with plants donated by Bunnings and planted by our Environment Club.
Planning for further major repairs to corridors and third-floor facilities later this term.

These improvements continue to enhance our learning environment and support the growing needs of our school community.

Celebrating Our Support Staff

Last week we proudly celebrated SSO Week, recognising the outstanding contribution of our School Support Officers. Through breakfasts, appreciation events, gifts and acknowledgements, we have the opportunity to thank these valued staff members who play such an important role in supporting students, families and colleagues every day.

Science Week

Science Week has brought plenty of curiosity, creativity and fun to our school this week. Students are taking part in sustainability activities including creating seeded bookmarks from recycled paper, as well as quizzes, hands-on experiences, animal displays and outdoor cooking activities. It is wonderful to see students engaging enthusiastically in STEM learning and environmental awareness.

Welcome Nada

We would like to welcome Nada A as our Aboriginal Secondary Education Transition Officer. Nada has extensive experience with mentoring, promoting Aboriginal culture and building positive relationships with families
