Principal’s Update Term 3, Week 10

Dear Seaview High School Community,

This week, I was honoured and grateful to share with our community my appointment to the ongoing Principal role at Seaview High School. It has been a privilege to lead this wonderful school community over the past two years, and I’m excited to continue working alongside our students, staff, families and community as we build on our strong positive culture and strive for the very best outcomes for every young person. Thank you for your well wishes and support.

Term 3 has been filled with opportunities for students to learn, lead, perform and connect with the wider community. Students participated in a wide range of activities including statewide sporting competitions, leadership programs, university pathway experiences, cultural events, arts performances, curriculum-based excursions and community partnerships. During Term 3, we also launched a renewed and refreshed approach to student leadership and are excited that many students are nominating for our Student Leadership Council (SLC) – watch this space!

Further highlights from Term 3 included student leaders and ambassadors visiting local primary schools, strong participation in sport across multiple year levels, involvement in events such as Dance Ultra, Music Night and Wear It Purple Day, as well as exciting learning experiences through university visits, guest speakers, workshops and subject-specific excursions.

To our Year 12 students and families. as we draw closer to the ‘finish line’ for our Year 12s, it is important that we continue to support our students to remain focused, meet their due dates, communicate with teachers and continue preparing for their exams, where relevant. We are also approaching that time of the year when our Year 12s begin to anticipate the celebrations that come with successfully completing thirteen years of schooling. This is an important milestone, and we want our students to have the opportunity to enjoy their final weeks together, reflect on their time at school, and celebrate all that they have achieved. For all the details about the end of year arrangements for Year 12 students, please refer to the detailed communication sent to families recently.

Thank you again for all your support. We look forward to welcoming students back for the start of Term 4 on Monday 12 October.

Teaching, Learning and Wellbeing

Staff Professional Learning and Wellbeing

On our most recent student free day, staff participated in a Professional Learning Day focused on strengthening our school’s commitment to wellbeing, inclusion and professional growth.

Throughout the day, staff engaged in learning designed to enhance their understanding of inclusive practices and support the diverse needs of students. These opportunities build staff capability and help ensure all students feel safe, valued and supported in their learning environment.

The day also included time for staff wellbeing and collaboration, recognising the importance of strong professional connections and a positive workplace culture in supporting successful student outcomes.

Importance of Daily Attendance

As we head into Term 4, attendance and engagement in learning remain key priorities for our school. Regular attendance, arriving on time and remaining in class throughout the school day all play an important role in helping students achieve their best and stay connected to their learning.

We encourage all students to make the most of the opportunities Term 4 will bring, including classroom learning, school events and end-of-year activities. Thank you to our families for your continued partnership and support in promoting great attendance habits and a positive approach to learning.

Celebrating Student Learning and Achievement

Year 12s Enter the Final Stretch

As we head into the term break, our Year 12 students are entering the final stage of their schooling. With final assessment deadlines approaching, exam preparation on the horizon and graduation just weeks away, there is a sense of excitement and anticipation across the cohort. While celebrations are beginning to take shape, maintaining focus on learning remains the priority as students work towards achieving their best possible outcomes.

During the holidays, a range of holiday seminars will be available. These sessions provide valuable opportunities for students to consolidate their learning, seek support from teachers and prepare for final assessments and examinations. Students who have been asked to attend are strongly encouraged to make the most of this support.

We wish our Year 12 students every success as they enter these final weeks and look forward to celebrating their achievements later this term.

Year 8 Market Day

Year 8 students showcased their creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills as they planned and ran their annual Market Day stalls. From designing stalls and creating products and games to managing sales and engaging with the wider school community, students embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm, initiative and a strong sense of collaboration.

More than 1,200 tickets were sold, raising over $750 for Headspace. This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful example of our students working together to make a positive contribution to their community while developing valuable real-world skills.

A sincere thank you to our families and staff for their support, encouragement and assistance behind the scenes. Your contribution helped make the day such a success for our students and school community.

Book Week

Book Week 2026, themed “Symphony of Stories,” was celebrated in Week 6 with a range of activities that promoted reading, creativity and student engagement.

Highlights included the annual Book Week Dress Up Day, where students and staff showcased a variety of book-inspired costumes, as well as a number of literacy-based competitions and challenges. Students participated in a Book Cover Design Competition, Creative Writing Competition, Guess the Novel Challenge and a school-wide Scavenger Hunt, with prizes awarded across the various events.

Eden School Prize

Congratulations to students who recently participated in the 2026 Eden School Prize, a statewide competition that encourages young people to share ideas for creating a better and happier world.

A special congratulations to Kaye H, who was awarded Third Prize, and to Ikjot B, who received a Merit Award. We also recognise Max B and Seraj M for their participation and contribution.

Student Voice, Leadership and Community Connections

Student Leaders Visit Parliament House

Our 2026 School Captains, Addison and Connor, recently joined me for a visit to Parliament House at the invitation of Mr Alex Dighton, Member for Black.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for our student leaders to learn more about leadership, government and civic engagement. During the day, they toured Parliament House, enjoyed lunch in the dining room and observed Question Time in action. They also had the opportunity to meet Erin Thompson, Member for Davenport, and Sarah Gibson, Member for Gibson.

Experiences such as these help students develop a deeper understanding of how government operates and the important role community leadership plays in shaping our society.

Thank you to our local Members of Parliament for their ongoing support of our school and for providing opportunities that enrich our students’ learning beyond the classroom.

Wear It Purple Day

Wear It Purple Day provided an important opportunity for our school community to celebrate diversity and reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all students.

Led by our student Wear It Purple Team, with support from the Wellbeing Team, the day encouraged meaningful conversations about inclusion, belonging and respect. Through a range of activities, students and staff came together to recognise the value of diversity and the importance of ensuring every young person feels seen, supported and connected within our school community.

Looking Ahead to Our Future Year 7s

We are busy preparing to welcome our 2027 Year 7 students, with a range of activities helping future Seaview students get to know our school and feel excited about the transition to high school.

A group of our current Year 7 students have taken on the role of Student Ambassadors and have started visiting local primary schools. They have been sharing their experiences, answering questions and giving students a glimpse of life at Seaview. It has been wonderful to see them step up as positive representatives of our school community.

We have also recently held our Special Interest Sports (SIS) trials, with Year 6 students putting their skills and determination to the test across a range of fitness activities and interviews. It was great to see so many students challenge themselves and embrace the opportunity.

Performing Arts, Culture and Sport

Music Nights

A huge congratulations to all students and staff involved in our two Music Nights this term. These performances showcased the incredible talent, dedication and hard work of our young musicians.

Thank you to everyone who performed, supported behind the scenes or attended the events. We are incredibly proud of our music students.

Sporting Achievements

It has been another successful term of sport at Seaview High School, with students achieving outstanding results across a range of competitions and proudly representing the school at state level events.

At the South Australian Schools Squash Championships, Seaview finished an impressive fourth overall among 111 students from schools across the state.

Our senior volleyball teams also performed exceptionally well at the Year 11/12 Statewide Volleyball Finals. The girls’ team secured third place overall, while the boys progressed to the grand final and finished as runners-up. Congratulations to all players on their teamwork, resilience and commitment throughout the tournament.

Congratulations also to our Senior Girls AFL team, who reached the Grand Final and competed with determination and pride. While they were unable to secure the win, reaching the final is a significant achievement and reflects the team’s hard work and dedication throughout the season.

Japan Trip

We wish our students and accompanying staff safe travels as they head off to Japan on what promises to be an incredible experience. Over the coming weeks, students will explore Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima, immersing themselves in Japanese language, culture and history.

We look forward to welcoming the group home and hearing about their adventures next term. Safe travels and enjoy every moment.

End-of-Year Information and Reminders

Middle School End-of-Year Activities

At the end of the school year, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities designed to celebrate their achievements, strengthen friendships and enjoy time together outside the classroom.

Each year level will take part in a tailored experience, providing opportunities for students to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and reflect on a positive year of learning.

A reminder to families that consent and payment are required for students to participate. We encourage families to complete these as soon as possible to assist with final planning and ensure students do not miss out on these end-of-year experiences.

School Speed Limit Changes on Seacombe Road

Families may be aware that the South Australian Government is introducing 40 km/h school speed limits at schools across the state to help improve safety for students travelling to and from school.

As part of this initiative, new electronic and static school zone signage will be installed on Seacombe Road near Seaview High School. Installation works are expected to occur between late September and November 2026.

We ask all members of our community to take care when travelling through the area and to follow any temporary traffic management directions during the works.

Once installed, the new 40 km/h school speed limit will operate on school days between 8.00–9.30am and 2.00–4.00pm, helping to create a safer environment for students, families and staff.
