Principal’s Update – Term 2, Week 6
Seaview High School Community,
As we reach the midpoint of Term 2, I want to acknowledge and thank our entire Seaview community for your ongoing resilience, commitment and care, especially considering the significant incident that occurred at the end of Term 1. Throughout this challenging period, the support and understanding demonstrated by students, families, staff and especially our Governing Council have been deeply appreciated. Your partnership and encouragement have played a vital role in helping us navigate and respond with care, and in supporting the wellbeing of everyone in our school.
Despite these challenges, our focus remains squarely on creating calm, positive and engaging learning environments for all. Highlights of the last few weeks include the success of our Student Free Day focused on Positive Behaviours for Learning, the outstanding teamwork and effort showcased at Sports Day, strong engagement at Parent Teacher Student Conferences and a host of creative and extra-curricular achievements by our students. We also celebrated the resilience and accomplishments of students, staff and volunteers at events such as the Year 12 Formal, our drama productions, Year 7 Camp, and the National Volunteer Week event all of which reinforce the strength and spirit of our school.
I particularly want to acknowledge and congratulate Year 11 student Joseph C who has been awarded the Dame Roma Mitchell Scholarship. It was great to be able to celebrate this with Joseph and his family at Government House.
Thank you once again to everyone in our community – and in particular to our Governing Council and volunteers – for your advocacy, care and contributions to Seaview. Together, we continue to demonstrate the determination and compassion that define our school and empower our students to thrive.

Staff Professional Development – Positive Behaviours for Learning – 27 April 2026
Our Student Free Day provided staff with a valuable opportunity to reconnect after the break and participate in professional learning focused on resilience, wellbeing and creating positive learning environments.
The day began with welcoming new staff and sharing holiday highlights, followed by a reflective session exploring the theme “Who am I connected to?”. This encouraged teachers and support staff to consider the many relationships that shape each school day. It was a meaningful activity that continued to influence discussions throughout the day.
Staff then engaged in practical workshops centred on building consistent routines, strengthening positive behaviour practices and supporting high expectations for all learners. These sessions reinforced our school’s commitment to creating calm, predictable and supportive learning spaces where every student can thrive.
Thank you to the Wellbeing, Inclusion and Culture Team for leading this important day of staff learning and development.
Dame Roma Mitchell Scholarship
Congratulations to Year 11 student Joseph C, who was awarded the 2026 Dame Roma Mitchell Scholarship at a special ceremony held at Government House and presented by the Governor of South Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC. Joining Joseph for the occasion were Principal Mr Duguid and ASETO Officer Ms Hannam.
The Dame Roma Mitchell Scholarship is a prestigious award that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in pursuing their educational aspirations during secondary school, recognising leadership, commitment and potential.
We are incredibly proud of Joseph and this outstanding achievement, and we look forward to seeing all the great things he will achieve.
Year 12 Formal
The Year 12 Formal at the Adelaide Convention Centre was a truly memorable occasion, marking a special milestone in our final year together. The evening was filled with excitement from the moment students arrived, dressed elegantly and ready to celebrate the journey we’ve shared. The red-carpet vibes were high with Ms Wedding and Smiley on the mic and our Year 12s shone both with their outfits and energy throughout the night.
The venue looked incredible, with beautifully set in black and gold tables, fairy lights and giant balloons, and a vibrant atmosphere that immediately set the tone for the night. It was a chance for everyone to come together outside of the classroom, creating lasting memories with friends and teachers who have been part of our school experience.
The formal wasn’t just about the celebration, it was also a time to reflect on how far we’ve come as a year level. Friendships have grown, challenges have been overcome, and this night gave us the opportunity to appreciate it all before we head into the final stretch of Year 12.
Parent Teacher Student Conferences
Recent Parent Teacher Student Conferences were well attended, with a total of 1,511 conferences booked across two nights. The meetings provided an important opportunity for meaningful conversations about student progress and learning goals.
I thank staff for the time and care they put into these discussions, and families and students for their engagement. The conferences continue to play a key role in strengthening partnerships and supporting positive outcomes for our students.
Minister Hood’s visit
Late last term, we were delighted to host the Honourable Lucy Hood MP, recently appointed Minister for Education, Training and Skills, along with Education Director, Heather Makris. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our students, staff, and innovative learning spaces and programs. We appreciated Minister Hood’s interest in our school community and look forward to opportunities for future visits.
National Volunteer Week – 18-24 May 2026
We would like to thank our incredible pool of volunteers who generously give their time to support our school community in so many ways. From being valued members of our Governing Council and Parents & Friends Committee, to helping behind the scenes at events, your contribution makes a real difference.
We are proud to celebrate and recognise the dedication, care and community spirit of our volunteers. Thank you for everything you do for our students, staff and school.
If you’ve been thinking about becoming a volunteer at our school, we’d love to welcome you. Every helping hand makes a difference. Information can be found on our website here > Parent Info Hub | Seaview High School
Year 7 Camp
The Year 7 cohort travelled to Woodhouse Adventure Park for Seaview’s very first Year 7 Camp. They engaged in a range of teambuilding and connection activities – who knew tagging your teacher in laser tag could actually help develop a positive relationship – and made their teachers proud in the way they demonstrated our Seaview values. Highlights included students helping each other to cross the creek on Challenge Hill, racing down the tube slides, working together to construct catapults, a pancake breakfast in the morning, and ghost stories in the evening.
Year 10 Drama Production
Congratulations to Ms Smiley’s Year 10 Drama students on their very first live production of The Real Story of Alice in Wonderland by Kristen Doherty.
The production provided students with opportunities for creativity, teamwork and self-discovery, and they embraced the spirit of the story with curiosity, courage and imagination. Throughout rehearsals, the students demonstrated resilience, determination and a genuine passion for theatre while supporting one another every step of the way.
Glazbrook Shield Staff v Students 9-a-side AFL match
Seaview’s competitive spirit was on full display at the annual Glazbrook Shield staff vs students 9-a-side AFL match. With an influx of student teachers this year, the staff team had the advantage of some fresh young legs joining the lineup!
It was great to see a mix of year levels joining in, including Year 7, 8 and 12 students. A special mention to Tayla W and Madden E, who did a wonderful job leading the student team.
It was a super fun game to watch, showcasing great sportsmanship and teamwork from both sides. The staff came out firing early and managed to blitz the students this year.
Final Score – Staff – 7 goals, 3 behinds (45), Students – 4 goals, 1 behind (25)
Ms Mav’s Year 11 Drama Production
Congratulations to Ms Mav’s Year 11 Drama class on their recent performance of “Is He Dead,” which follows the hilarious story of a young painter who fakes his own death in an attempt to escape debt, save the woman he loves, and achieve fame. Filled with mistaken identities, clever disguises, and plenty of laughter, the production showcased the students’ creativity, confidence, and dedication.
We are super proud of the cast and crew who embraced the absurdity and charm of this story, showcasing remarkable creativity, teamwork, and dedication in bringing this colourful story to life.
