Principal’s Update – Term 2, Week 10

Dear Seaview High School Community,

As we conclude Term 2, I would like to thank our students, staff, and families for their continued commitment and engagement throughout a busy and rewarding term.

This term we celebrated important events, including National Reconciliation Week and a number of performing arts showcases, all of which have contributed to a vibrant and inclusive school culture.

Our students excelled not only in the arts but also in sport, academic pursuits, and various enrichment programs. The ongoing success of Seaview Plus Clubs highlights the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students to make the most of school life.

Congratulations to all students recognised for their achievements this term.

I am also delighted to share some joyful news with our school community. During the last week of Term 2, we had the pleasure of welcoming Cherie back to school for a shared lunch. With Cherie’s permission, I am pleased to be able to update you on her recovery. Our shared lunch was a wonderful opportunity for us to come together and celebrate her ongoing journey and the progress she has made in her recovery. Our school community’s support and well wishes mean a great deal to Cherie, and we look forward to continuing to support her as she regains her strength.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable break. We look forward to another productive term ahead.

Reconciliation Week

Seaview High School embraced National Reconciliation Week under the theme “Now More Than Ever—All In.” The week offered meaningful opportunities for students and staff to deepen our commitment to reconciliation, respect, and understanding.

A highlight was the “lollipops goal” classroom exercise, where students negotiated for rewards, prompting important discussions about trust, justice, and the consequences of broken promises. This activity provided an effective segue into broader conversations about rebuilding trust between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and ways to foster reconciliation within our community.

Our Year 8 students took part in a “Privilege Walk,” an exercise that illuminated social inequities facing First Nations peoples. Guided reflection encouraged deeper understanding of empathy, equity, and collective responsibility.

The school music team further marked the week by recording “Beds are Burning” by Midnight Oil, a song chosen by Reconciliation Australia for its strong message about Indigenous rights and the importance of justice and returning land.

As part of our celebrations, the Nunga Room was specially decorated to reflect the “All In” theme, creating a welcoming and culturally respectful space for students to engage and reflect.

Special Interest Dance Nights

Week 8 was a wonderful celebration of dance at Seaview, with our Special Interest Dance (SID) students presenting their Semester 1 Dance Nights. Across three performances, including a matinee for visiting primary school students and two evening performances for our school community, our dancers showcased the dedication, creativity and growth they have demonstrated throughout the semester. These performances also formed an important part of their assessment and were a fitting celebration of their hard work.

Our Thursday matinee was a particular highlight. We were delighted to welcome students from Seacfliff Primary School and Woodend Primary School.  The audience responded with great enthusiasm, creating a wonderful atmosphere for our performers. We sincerely thank both primary schools for supporting our program and providing their students with the opportunity to experience live dance performance at Seaview.

Congratulations also to our Year 7 to 10 SID Award recipients, who were recognised for their Passion and Dedication, Growth and Resilience, and MVP awards. These awards acknowledge students who consistently demonstrate commitment, perseverance and a positive contribution to our dance community.

A special congratulations goes to our Stage 2 SID students, who performed for the final time as members of the program. Their passion, resilience and commitment over many years have been outstanding, and they have been wonderful role models for our younger dancers. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and wish them every success in the next stage of their journey.

We extend our sincere thanks to our external choreographers, student choreographers, technical crew, staff and families whose support made these performances possible. We would also like to thank our Parents and Friends Committee for generously giving their time to sell raffle tickets and refreshments across the performances. Their support was greatly appreciated by our audience and contributes so much to the success of events such as these.

Parents and Friends Fundraising

Our Parents & Friends Committee recently held a successful fundraising campaign, selling chips, confectionery and raffle tickets to raise funds for ongoing improvements to our school facilities. Their first fundraising goal is the installation of new chilled water fountains for students.

Three raffle prizes were up for grabs:

  • 12-month Digital Entertainment Membership (valued at $75)
  • SANFL 2026 Season Ticket (valued at approximately $90)
  • Event Cinemas Family Pass (valued at $94)

Thanks to the incredible support of our school community, the fundraiser was an outstanding success, raising a total of $645.39.

A huge thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and supported the fundraiser. Your generosity is helping make a real difference to our school, and we also extend our sincere thanks to our Parents & Friends Committee for organising.

Dance Development Lunchtime Performance

The same week also saw our Year 8 and Year 9 Dance Development students take to the stage for their Lunchtime Performance Showcase. Performing for family and friends, students presented both their own choreographic works and class routines, demonstrating the skills and confidence they have developed throughout the semester.

For many students, this was their first time performing dance in front of an audience, making the occasion even more significant. We were incredibly proud of the courage, resilience and enthusiasm they displayed as they embraced this opportunity.

Big Gig

BIG GIG returned bigger and better than ever in its second year, with our senior students delivering three hours of exceptional original music. Held at The Jade in the city, the event gave 20 talented SACE musicians the opportunity to experience performing their personally crafted works in a professional venue.

Taking to the stage with our largest audience yet, students work was witnessed by family, friends, and aspiring junior music students eager to follow the musicianship of their greatest role models. Inspired by their peers, each performance showcased outstanding technical work, captivating stage presence, remarkable showmanship, and teamwork. Through a diverse range of genres, powerful storytelling, and immersive performances, our students created an unforgettable experience that exceeded all expectations. Hard to believe this was a school performance; Seaview Music you have made us incredibly proud.

NAIDOC Week at Darlington Primary School

On Thursday, 2 July 2026 (Week 10, Term 2), a group of our staff and students had the privilege of attending a Welcome to Country with Uncle Moogie at Darlington Primary School as part of their NAIDOC Week celebrations, recognising ’50 Years of Deadly’. We were also delighted to view the fantastic artwork created by Darlington PS students and to share a morning tea with their school community. We extend our sincere thanks to Darlington Primary School for their warm invitation and hospitality, and we look forward to continuing our positive partnership in the future.

Mid-Year Visual Art Exhibition

The Mid-Year Visual Art Exhibition held earlier this term, provided students with the opportunity to present their artworks to parents, families, and members of the wider community. Students reflected on their artistic choices, techniques, and creative journeys, sharing the inspiration and processes behind their work.

As they continue to develop their skills and explore new creative directions through their SACE Visual Art studies, the exhibition was an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and growth.

SA Cross Country State Championships at Oakbank Racecourse

We had fantastic representation at the School Sport SA Cross Country State Championships at Oakbank Racecourse this year, with 35 students across all year levels competing in the championship.

It was a fun, cold and muddy day, with students demonstrating determination, resilience and school pride throughout the event.

Congratulations to all students who represented us. We are very proud of your efforts!

Seaview Plus Clubs

Our Seaview Plus Clubs continue to go from strength to strength, providing students with opportunities to connect, learn new skills, be creative and stay active during their lunch breaks.

A huge thank you goes to the dedicated staff who generously give up their own time to run these clubs each week. Their enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to create welcoming spaces for our students is what makes Seaview Plus so special. We also thank the many students who regularly attend and contribute to making each club such a positive and inclusive environment. Without the generosity and support of our staff, these clubs simply wouldn’t exist or be as successful as they are.

Some recent highlights include our Environment Club, where students and staff brightened up our garden beds. A special thank you to Michael Jenkinson and Shaun Bellamarino who led the activity and to Bunnings for their generous donation of plants, helping make our school grounds even more welcoming.

Our Knitting Club continues to grow in popularity each week, with students mastering the slipknot and chain stitch. The Craft and Art Club is attracting an ever-increasing number of students, with creativity on full display each week as students enjoy a variety of projects.

And, of course, the ever-popular Just Dance Club continues to get students up, moving and dancing through their lunch break, promoting fun, fitness and wellbeing.

Thank you to everyone who helps make our Seaview Plus Clubs such a valuable part of our school community. Your time, energy and passion are making a real difference to our students every week.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Year 9 student Anton S, who has been accepted into the Indigenous Australian Engineering School (IAES) at Flinders University. The IAES is a four day program designed to inspire First Nations students from across Australia to explore the study and career opportunities available in engineering and technology.

Throughout the program, Anton will take part in hands-on engineering challenges, visit leading engineering organisations, and engage in a range of cultural and extracurricular activities.
