In this update, you will find important information on upcoming events, curriculum developments, student highlights, staffing matters, and planning underway for 2026. I encourage you to read through the following sections carefully to stay informed and engaged with the life of our school.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement as we work together to ensure every student at Seaview High School can thrive.

HR Update

We have conducted the recruitment process for a Finance Manager, hopefully they will commence during December. Currently advertising for a Youth Worker to backfill a staff member who has won a role within Department for Education Workabout centre. All classroom support roles have been filled for 2026.

World Teachers’ Day

Our Year 11s rolled up their sleeves and cooked up an absolute storm in honour of World Teachers’ Day, with thanks to Ms Roberts and Ms West for leading the way. Safe to say our teachers and staff were very happy (and very well fed)!

Remembrance Day Ceremony

It was a lovely Remembrance Day service, attended by a number of special guests including Education Director Ms Heather Makris, Member for Davenport Ms Erin Thompson, Warrant Officer Tyrone Barnacle-Watts, Mayor of Marion Mr Kris Hanna, and the Chair of our Governing Council Mr Michael Van Dyk along with members of our Governing Council.

The ceremony was supported by our talented Year 9 student Gabriella D, who sang the National Anthem beautifully, student cadet Gurshaan S, and other student representatives.

Staff, students, guests, and community members came together for this meaningful whole school event, taking time to reflect on and honour those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. A truly touching ceremony.

2026 Captains

Congratulations to Connor W and Addison M on their selection as the 2026 School Captains. Throughout their schooling and in their applications, both students demonstrated a strong commitment to Seaview’s core values of Respect, Integrity, Empathy, and Resilience.

SASPA Media Campaign

We were recently selected by SA Secondary Principals’ Association to feature in a story titled Connecting Communities Through Music: 2024 Alumni Antony Abbracciavento’s Mission for Inclusive Arts – a piece that captures the power of inclusion, creativity, and community connection through the arts.
The story highlights Antony’s passion for music, his advocacy for inclusivity, and the ways in which the school community fostered his growth as both a student and musician. We continue to be super proud of Antony and our team of educators and support staff. Watch the production here.

2025 Review of the Disability Standards for Education

Have your say on the Disability Standards for Education. The Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards) ensure that students with disability can access and participate in education and training on the same basis as students without disability. The Standards are reviewed every five years to make sure they continue to meet the needs of students with disability.

The Australian Government Department of Education is encouraging education providers, parents, carers, students and other interested parties to participate in the consultation and have their say. Go to www.education.gov.au/dsereview2025 to find out how you can participate in the consultation and provide your feedback.

Parent forum for parents and carers of children with disability

Statewide Inclusive Education Services (SIES) holds free termly forums for parents and carers of students with disability. The next event will be held on Thursday 27 November 2025, 9.45am to 2.00pm, 72a Marlborough St, Henley Beach. Details and how to register here – https://sies.sa.edu.au/parent-forum/

Safety Reminder: Charging Devices Safely

The Department for Education has issued a reminder about the increased risk of electric shocks, particularly from iPad and laptop chargers. At Seaview High School, we expect all devices to be fully charged at home before the school day.

Families are also encouraged to:

  • Use only genuine, approved chargers for student devices.
  • Check chargers regularly for signs of wear, damage or exposed wiring.
  • Replace any faulty chargers immediately.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe learning environment for all students.

Preparing for the Bushfire Season

As we head into the bushfire season, it’s important that we all take steps to be prepared. While Seaview High School is not classified as a school at high bushfire risk, we encourage families to consider their own bushfire preparedness and ensure they have appropriate plans in place.

You can stay informed about daily Fire Danger Ratings and Total Fire Bans by visiting the CFS website: https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/restrictions/total-fire-bans-ratings

In the event of an emergency, the school will communicate with families via SMS and email. Please make sure your contact details are up to date.

Sydney History Trip

Students participating in the HASS Sydney Trip experienced a rich program of historical, cultural, and social learning. Highlights included a powerful visit to the Sydney Jewish Museum, where students heard first-hand from Holocaust survivor Greta Goldberg and engaged in source analysis exploring the rise of Nazism and the impact of propaganda. The group also visited the Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney, where students explored artefacts from ancient civilisations and conducted hands-on investigations of primary sources.

Cultural experiences included exploring Darling Harbour, the Glebe Markets, and Sydney’s iconic landmarks such as the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Across the trip, students demonstrated curiosity, empathy, and engagement, making the experience both educational and memorable.

STEM Aboriginal Learners Conference

4 students recently attended the STEM Aboriginal Learner Congress at the Adelaide Oval, an annual two-day event for Aboriginal students in Years 5–10 attending South Australian Department for Education schools. The congress aims to inspire and engage young Aboriginal learners in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through interactive and challenging activities.

The congress highlights Aboriginal learners as capable STEM thinkers and encourages interest in STEM subjects and career pathways. It is co-designed and run by the Young Aboriginal STEM Thinkers of SA, alongside teachers, university students, industry experts, and education leaders.

Year 7 Special Interest Project Expo

The Year 7 Special Interest Project Expo was a buzz with our Year 7s proudly showcasing the projects they’ve been working on at home throughout term 3.

There was a wide variety of projects on display ranging from jewellery making, poetry, and pointe shoes, to a variety of sports including netball, basketball, volleyball, and calisthenics. There were also freshly baked and cooked food items like cake pops, muffins, spaghetti, spring rolls, cookies, and a Post Malone themed cake – even homemade, branded and packaged dog treats.

Other projects included knitting, chopping boards, and bouquets of flowers made from pipe cleaners, along with impressive builds such as a dog kennel, a bench seat, a wheelchair, bike ramps, and a bike rack.

Blue Minds Youth Ocean Leadership Workshop

A group of environmentally minded students took part in the Blue Minds Youth Ocean Leadership late in Term 3. This interactive program was designed to empower young people with tools to address their climate change concerns. Our students, passionate about ocean preservation, explored the connection between climate change and mental health, discovered strategies to manage eco-anxiety, and learned meaningful ways to contribute to environmental sustainability.

Ekiden Relay – Bonython Park

In Week 1, Term 4, our Middle School girls represented Seaview at the Ekiden Relay at Bonython Park. Each team of eight ran a combined 20.6km, showing incredible endurance, teamwork, and support for one another throughout the event. Highlights included strong opening runs from Year 7s Emma M and Florence C, personal bests across the board, and a proud sibling baton pass between Zoe and Miller S. A fantastic effort all round — we’re already looking forward to next year’s race.

Street Smart High

Year 10 students attended the RAA Street Smart High presentation at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre last term – a powerful road safety event held in partnership with the Government of South Australia that raises awareness about the impact of road trauma and helping young people become safer drivers and road users.

Year 7/8 Boys and Girls Tennis

Our Year 7/8 boys and girls’ tennis teams recently competed in Round 1 of the State-wide schools Competition. Congratulations to all students who represented the school. It was a close competition, and our students showed outstanding sporting conduct. The girls’ team played Tatachilla and Sacred Heart Colleges and at the end of the day each school had one win each. On a count back the girls team finished second by one set. Congratulations to the boys’ team who played Sacred Heart, Westminster and Tatachilla Colleges. The boys won all matches and now progress to the State-wide schools finals.

Art and Photography Exhibition

Congratulations to all students who exhibited work as part of the Art & Photography Exhibition, which was a fantastic showcase of student talent and creativity. Showcasing photos, paintings, printmaking, sculptures and mixed media, each piece reflected our students’ growth and dedication under the banner of ‘True Colours’.

Thank you to local artist Leah Leventeris as well as year 12 students, Megan S and Ella L who were speakers at the event, inspiring our young artists and discussing pathways beyond school and their own art journeys. The event was also generously supported by our Music and Food and Hospitality students and teams.

Congratulations to the Judge’s Choice Award winners Nora H for Visual Art and Kierah W for Photography whose work demonstrated technical precision and creativity.

Tjindu Foundation

Congratulations to Hudson L, Joseph C, and Kade M, who have been selected to join the Tjindu Foundation in 2026. This prestigious program offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students the opportunity to develop their talent through elite football training, leadership development, and academic support. As members, they will represent the Tjindu name across South Australia and Australia, showcasing their commitment, skill, and potential both on and off the field.

Mars Challenge

This term, our Year 9 Science cohort took part in the Mars Challenge in collaboration with The Andy Thomas Space Foundation. Starting in Term 3, students spent seven weeks working hard on their projects, exploring what it would take to live and thrive on Mars.

After much creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving, a winning group was chosen to represent Seaview at the Australian Space Discovery Centre. Congratulations to Graziella F, Maree F, and Emma L for representing our school with excellence and enthusiasm!

A huge thank you to Ms Sutherland for her guidance and support throughout this challenge. We’re so proud of all our Year 9 Science students for aiming high and showing what Seaview spirit is all about!

High Performance Tennis

Recently, our High Performance Tennis students participated in the first round of the 9/10 knockout tennis tournament. All students played in great spirit and at a high standard. Our boys lost in a tight contest which went to a countback on games, while our girls made it through to the final, coming up in week 6, after barely losing a game all day.
