HASS - Sydney Trip Update ✈️
Day 3 🏃🏽♂️➡️
We started the day at the Chau Chak Wing Museum at Sydney University. Our session included information on the Ancient Middle East - including a 10,000 year old human skull - before proceeding through the ages to Ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece. We got to see real mummies and sarcophagi, a Lego recreation of Pompeii, and more. Afterwards, we were lucky enough to conduct some hands-on source analysis on thousand-year-old ancient artefacts, including an Egyptian brain hook 🧠
Afterwards, we toured Sydney University campus and learned the history behind its design being based on Oxford and Cambridge.
Finally, we dragged our very sore legs to the cinema to kick back after a long day🍿
Day 4 - Happy Birthday Hannah & Sophie 🎈
Today we went to the Glebe Markets, where we wandered through and came away with some records, jewellery and delicious sweet treats 🍩
Next, we took the bus into the Sydney CBD, where we explored Circular Quay, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
After a quick lunch we tried our luck with some escape rooms, with varying levels of success…!
We finished our day and our trip with a birthday party pizza and cake 🎂 ... See MoreSee Less

HASS - Sydney Trip Update ✈️
Day 1
We touched down in Sydney just after midday and settled into our accommodation. After lunch and some downtime, we enjoyed an Italian dinner overlooking Darling Harbour, followed by a scenic evening walk. The night ended with a cinema session featuring Glass Onion, complete with popcorn and snacks.
Day 2
Our first official HASS activity was a moving visit to the Sydney Jewish Museum. We were incredibly privileged to listen to a talk by Greta Goldberg, a child survivor of the Holocaust. Greta’s mother was a Partisan - a member of the Ukrainian resistance - and gave her up as a baby to protect her during the height of the conflict. The two were reunited when Greta was a young child, before they moved with Greta’s stepfather to the central coast of Australia. Greta left us with the lasting message to ‘contemplate the functions of power, politics and profit’.
Following our talk, we explored the Rise of Nazism with an expert on the topic, including source analysis on propaganda and other primary sources, such as Adolf Hitler’s falsified National Socialist Party Membership card.
Finally, we were led around the museum by descendants of Holocaust survivors, who gave us their own personal family stories as we observed the artefacts. We finished with the Children’s Memorial, which was heartbreaking but incredibly important.
Afterwards, students had time to relax with some shopping, games, and a BBQ dinner back at the hostel. ... See MoreSee Less

🌊 Today, a small group of environmentally minded students took part in the Blue Minds Youth Ocean Leadership workshop.
This interactive program was designed to empower young people with tools to address their climate change concerns. Our students, passionate about ocean preservation, explored the connection between climate change and mental health, discovered strategies to manage eco-anxiety, and learned meaningful ways to contribute to environmental sustainability.
