Special Interest - Pedal Prix
Pedal Prix is a STEM focus subject offered to students in Years 9 & 10.
The curriculum is designed to provide a pathway into a range of STEM subjects in the SACE.
Students develop a range of skills including; graphic design, metalwork, bike maintenance, CO2 dragster construction, aerodynamics, vehicle design, fundraising, fitness training and statistics.
Students ride purpose built Pedal Prix vehicles to develop racing confidence, personal fitness and collaboration as well as teamwork and communication skills. The Year 9 Pedal Prix team compete in 4-5 races throughout the year, including the 24 hour endurance race at Murray Bridge.
The Year 10 program has a strong focus on the Science, Maths, Engineering and Fabrication behind the manufacture of a Human Powered Vehicle.
Students are expected to take responsibility in the operation of their Pedal Prix team. They are responsible for a range of entrepreneurial elements including; sourcing sponsors, planning and running fundraising, organisation of documentation and race-day materials. Students develop leadership skills by mentoring and assisting the Year 9 Pedal Prix team both in and out of school.
Entry to the program is by application including a fitness trial.
Selection criteria includes:
- potential ability/performance indicated through fitness trial
- demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
