Special Interest - Special Interest Music Program
The Special Interest Music program has a focus on Contemporary Music and Music Technology, Instrumental tuition is provided for vocal, guitar (acoustic, electric and bass), percussion, string, brass and wind instruments. Assistance can be provided for tuition in other musical areas.
Seaview is a zoned school; however, a limited number of spaces are available for students outside of the zone. They are invited to apply for entry into the Special Interest Music program by submitting an application and attending an audition.
Students who wish to join the program, and who demonstrate adequate expertise, will be invited to join the Music teacher and discuss their suitability for the course. Indicators of successful past applicants are:
- Ability to read basic notation
- Basic music theory
- 12 months experience with an instrument
Students who already learn an instrument are encouraged to audition. Entry is by application and audition.
Successful applicants will be required to take part in an extra-curricular ensemble appropriate to their instrument. These include: Large Ensemble, Rock Band and Vocal Choir.
Special Interest Music is offered as a subject in Years 8-12. Qualified teachers, with the support of industry professionals, deliver the program which covers solo and ensemble practical development, theory and aural ear training and contemporary music appreciation.
Students participate in all as in all aspects of Music relevant to their needs while developing techniques and skills appropriate to SACE standards. Individual and ensemble performances are an integral part of the
DJ and Music Production
Seaview High Music is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) specialist school and offers a course focused on technology in the Music Industry. Topics covered include sound engineer skills, electronic synthesis, audio music software training, live and studio PA and microphone set techniques, DJ production and basic musicianship while introducing relevant programming. This course is an elective course for all students and does not require an audition.
Seaview High School Music Studio (practice rooms, recording studios, computer suite with industry software).
Students are able to complete Certificate III in Technical Production and Recording and/or SACE Stage 1 & 2 Music.
