Special Interest - Special Interest Dance Program

The Special Interest Dance Program is a joint venture between Seaview High School and the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Selection Process
Seaview is a zoned school; however, there are a limited number of vacancies for students outside of the zone. They are invited to apply for entry into the Special Interest Dance program, which invloves submitting an application and attending an audition (please see application form on the back page of the brochure).

Successful applicants are notified and a waiting list is compiled if applications exceed places.

'Out of Zone' Year 7 into 8 students need to complete an application form (link below) and book in for the auditions on 30 March from 5pm to 6:15pm. Please contact the school on 8377 8000, once your child's application form has been submitted, to book a place in the audition.

Successful applicants will participate in a Special Interest Dance class as one of their weekly subjects in Year 8. This will assist them in preparing to study the Certificate II in Dance in Year 10.

Interested in zone Year 7 students, who will be attending Seaview HS in 2021, are required to complete an application form by 6 Nov and will audition in November (date to be confirmed).

Cost
There are fees associated with this Special Interest Program.
Students are required to purchase the dance uniform available from the school.

Curriculum 
Special Interest Dance is offered as a subject in Years 8 - 10. Qualified teachers, with the support from industry professionals, deliver the program. 

Certificate II in Dance is offered to students in Year 10. Entry into this course will be via application and audition.

Students complete the following units to achieve their Certificate II in Dance.

  • Work effectively with others
  • Develop basic dance techniques
  • Incorporate artistic expression into basic dance performances
  • Prepare for performances
  • Follow safe dance practices
  • Develop a basic level of physical condition for dance performance
  • Develop and apply creative arts industry knowledge
  • Perform basic contemporary dance technique
  • Perform basic jazz dance technique
  • Perform basic street dance technique 

Composition and performance are an integral part of the course. Students study a range of dance styles including Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Classical Ballet, Music Theatre, Tap, Hip Hop and Breakdance.

Program Benefits
Certificate II in Dance is a preparatory qualification that allows learners to develop basic technical skills and knowledge to prepare for work in the live performance industry. Successful completion of this course contributes towards Stage 1 (Year 11) SACE.

 • Facilities
Seaview High School Dance Studio including; male and female change rooms, sprung floors with  tarkett covering,  proscenium arch stage with polished boards, mirrors, barres.

• An integrated education program
Students are taught Fitness Training, Training, Nutrition, Anatomy and Technique associated with Dance performance.

Progression
Students who are selected into the Year 8 Special Interest Dance program may also be offered automatic entry to complete their Certificate II in Dance when they are in Year 10. If they do not receive this automatic offer, they may still audition to complete this qualification. These auditions will be at the end of the year.

Students in Year 10 are able to audition for Certificate III in Dance in Year 11.
