Special Interest - Special Interest Sports Program

The Special Interest Sports Program is offered in conjunction with SACA, Tennis SA, Volleyball SA and Swimming SA. The focus of the course is on skill development and preparing athletes for competing at the elite level. Students study elements of nutrition, biomechanics exercise physiology, and have opportunities for SASI talent discovery. Qualified coaches, with the support of specialist staff, plan and deliver the program. Tournaments and competition at school, interschool, club and state level are an integral part of the course.  A High Performance Tennis Class is offered in addition to the Specialist Sports Program.


All potential applicants must trial for this program.
Note: The High Performance Tennis Program runs separately to the year 8 Special Interest Sports Program.

New in 2017

Year 8 students in 2017 will have opportunity to apply for the newly designed multidisciplinary and Human Movement inspired Special Interest Sports Program.

The Special Interest Sports Program will expose students to a range of diverse sports and Human Movement theory, providing opportunities for students to not only excel in sport but find their own “fit” for a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Seaview High School is working in partnership with State Sports Associations, elite coaches and the South Australian Sports Institute. Students will be provided with opportunities to;

  • Develop a range of high level skills
  • Participate in a variety of sports in conjunction with community organisations
  • Participate in State and National level sporting competitions
  • Be coached by professional athletes
  • Collaborate with professionals in the Human Performance field
  • Visit elite sporting facilities
  • Link with local sporting clubs to pursue sport in the community

From 2018, the new Special Interest Sports Program is offered as a subject in Year 8 and 9 and will continue to develop in response to student interest into the future. Students will link practical lessons with 6 overarching 'strands' that will lead directly to tertiary courses and meet career trends in the industry.

These strands are:

  • Nutrition
  • Exercise Science
  • Sports Psychology
  • Sports Science
  • Sports Administration
  • Health Promotions

The program will focus on at least one specific sport per term.
These sports may include:

  • AFL
  • Badminton
  • Cricket 
  • Tennis
  • Touch Football
  • Volleyball
  • Water based activities at the Marion Aquatic Centre
